Isaiah served as God’s mouthpiece to the nation of Judah and the surrounding nations. His message echoes into our lives today as we read his call to rely on the Lord. Using the genres of poetry, narrative, and prophecy, Isaiah communicated clearly that followers of God could trust in Him. As we study this Old Testament book, we will learn to rest in God’s promises and grow in trust. Isaiah’s words will reveal that you can trust God more than your own human effort or the counterfeits the world suggests. In Him, you’ll find the comfort and peace you need to sustain you!

The Book of Hebrews is a dense, rich book of the Bible that can seem almost intimidating to study. But in this group, we will dig into Hebrews in a fun way without compromising the depth of the scripture. Hebrews was a sermon for a specific people and culture in the midst of martyrdom and persecution, but is also so relevant for us today, reminding us to continue walking toward Jesus regardless of our culture or our circumstances. We will spend time in the Old and New Testament as we get to the heart of the matter: Jesus is our accessible King. He is not a faraway God, but an up-close Redeemer who draws near to us.

In this group, we will explore a more intimate relationship with God, one that can make hearing Him – His will, His heart, and His voice — our ongoing experience. We will discover how we can listen with greater confidence, clarity, and discernment through obedience, listening to the Holy Spirit, preparing our hearts, and listening to God through his Word. This group will equip you to hear and identify the voice of God in your life!

This Bible study group is based upon Psalm 1:3. The life of a believer goes through seasons. Some are for planting, some for watering, some for pruning, and some for growing. In every season, we can be rooted deeply in the Lord. This is a great group to dive into the various spiritual disciplines. It will encourage women in all stages and seasons of life and point us to Jesus through the disciplines he modeled for us in His own life!

James confronts the confidence we place in our own capacity for wisdom and faith. He challenges us to instead receive God’s wisdom — freely given and available to all — to fill in what we lack. We will spend this group growing more in Christlike character and the wisdom that comes from God!

In this group, we will discover the amazing freedom that is found in Christ – freedom from hypocrisy, freedom from bad motives and habits, freedom from evil. ECCLESIASTES

Led by: Christy Brink
Tuesday mornings, 9:30-11:30am
Start date: September 17
8 Week Group
Meets in the Chapel
Child care available
Cost: $7

Ecclesiastes is an unusual, often overlooked book of the Old Testament. And yet, Ecclesiastes is a book with incredible application to the world we live in today. This group will cause you to wrestle with the ultimate motives of your life, what you are truly pursuing in life, and what you consider “success.” We will discuss the injustices of life and the tension between the kingdom of this world and the Kingdom of God. In addition to reading through Ecclesiastes, we will also be reading New Testament passages that add juxtaposition and hope to the questioning and despair of Ecclesiastes. Ecclesiastes challenges us to confront the fleeting nature of earthly pursuits and to seek enduring truths and meaning in our lives. This Bible study group will ultimately give beautiful hope, life, and freedom amid a fallen, broken, materialistic world!

I GIVE UP: THE JOY OF SURRENDER

Study by: Laura Story
Led by: Pam Eckart
Tuesday evenings, 7-9pm
Start date: September 17
6 Weeks
Meets in room 306
Cost: Free (but you are responsible for purchasing your own workbook. A link to order your book will be sent upon registration)

It’s natural to want to be in control. Most of us can’t easily accept the idea of giving up that control. But when your need for peace surpasses your desire to be in command of your life, God — who truly uses all things for our good — demonstrates how much we can trust him. The very act of completely surrendering our will to Him can become the one act that will change your life forever.

Surrender can be difficult as it often conflicts with our instincts, hopes, and dreams. But surrender is never without benefit as God leads us into his peace that surpasses understanding. Join us for this group and we explore what it means to give up control and live a life of surrender before the Lord!

wednesday

Sermon on the Mount

Study by: Jen Wilkin
Led by: Marvelle Ilko
Wednesday mornings, 9:30-11:30am
Start date: September 4
9 Weeks
Meets in room 306
Cost: Free (but you are responsible for purchasing your own workbook. A link to order your book will be sent upon registration)

The Sermon on the Mount is one of Jesus’ most well-known sermons. And although many of us are somewhat familiar with the Sermon on the Mount, most of us have only encountered that teaching in fragments. But what if we navigated these three chapters in Matthew as they were originally heard: as one cohesive, well-ordered message intended to challenge us to think differently about what it means to be a follower of Jesus and a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven? Join us for this group as we dive into this beautiful and challenging sermon and discuss blessedness, the Lord’s Prayer, religious devotion, money ambition and relationships.

Daniel: Courage in Captivity

Written and led by: Paula Spencer and Nancy Witham
Every-Other Thursday morning, 9:30-11:30am
Start Date: August 15
8 Sessions
Meets in the Chapel
Child care available
Cost: $7

The book of Daniel in the Old Testament Scriptures makes for exciting reading right along with all the fairy tales! Daniel has the fiery furnace, the lions' den, and the scary handwriting on the wall. But it is not a fairy tale — far from it. Daniel was a real live person of history who was taken captive and lived as an alien in a strange and different land: Babylon. Every word of this book is true — recorded faithfully by the prophet Daniel as the Holy Spirit directed. Though it is an ancient book it has enormous application for Christians today living in the current culture — our Babylon — as we swim against the stream, trying to stay faithful to God when everything and everyone around us scorns, discounts, and maligns the God in whom we trust. Join us for a deep dive into this exciting, instructive, not-a-fairytale book. You will not want to miss what God has in store for you!

None Like Him

Study by: Jen Wilkin
Led by: Amber Hassett

Start Date: August 29
6 Sessions
Meets in Room 301/302
Cost: Free (but you are responsible for purchasing your own workbook. A link to order your book will be sent upon registration)

God is self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, immutable, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign, infinite, and incomprehensible. We’re not. And that’s a good thing! Our limitations are by design. We were never meant to be God. But at the root of every sin is our rebellious desire to possess attributes that belong to God alone. This group will call us to embrace our limits as a means to glorify God’s limitless power!

Nehemiah: A Heart that Can Break

Nehemiah’s heart was so broken over the destruction of Jerusalem that he left his home in a Persian palace to help them. In this group, we will explore real ways to put our feet to your faith. Are you ready to let God break your heart for a hurting, lost world and move you in compassion to be the hands and feet of Jesus?
