Welcome to MPCC Weekday Preschool and Kindergarten

We are so happy you are here! This FAQ is designed to provide helpful information about our programs, policies, and daily practices at MPCC Weekday Preschool and Kindergarten. We hope it answers many of your questions and gives you a clear picture of what to expect as part of our school community. If you need additional information, our staff is always happy to help.

What curriculum or educational philosophy do you use?

MPCC follows a play-based curriculum that supports the whole child. Our program is designed to foster curiosity, creativity, independence, and a love of learning through hands-on experiences, guided play, and age-appropriate instruction. While we utilize the Early Learning Matters (ELM) curriculum designed by Purdue University as a basis, much of the daily instruction is teacher-created to best support the needs and interests of the students in each class.

Do you accommodate different learning styles or developmental needs?

We recognize that children learn and grow at different paces. Our teachers differentiate instruction, provide individualized support when needed, and work collaboratively with families to meet each child’s developmental needs. If a student is identified as needing some extra support, we will communicate with the family to come up with a plan that will best support that child. Whether that includes occasional 1 on 1 support in or out of the classroom or additional evaluation, we want each child to get what they need in order to thrive in our program and beyond.

What is the student-to-teacher ratio?

All classrooms are staffed with two teachers, each of whom are certified in CPR- including pediatric CPR, First Aid, and AED administration. Maximum classroom capacities are age-based:
  • Toddlers: 8
  • Twos: 10
  • Threes: 14
  • Pre-K: 15
  • Kindergarten: 20

what is Brightwheel?

Brightwheel is a secure communication and management app used by our school to connect teachers and families. It allows parents to receive important announcements, classroom updates, messages, and photos, as well as manage billing, forms, and attendance—all in one convenient place.

How do you handle challenging behaviors?

At MPCC, we view challenging behaviors as a form of communication, especially in young children who are still developing the skills to express their needs and emotions. Guided by Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) principles, our approach focuses on understanding why a behavior is occurring rather than simply reacting to it.

Teachers prioritize connection before correction by creating a safe, supportive environment where children feel seen and valued. We use calm, consistent responses, help children co-regulate, and teach appropriate social and emotional skills such as identifying feelings, problem-solving, and self-regulation. Clear expectations and gentle boundaries are paired with empathy and guidance.

When needed, we work collaboratively with families to ensure consistency and support each child’s individual development. Our goal is not just to address behavior in the moment, but to help children build the skills they need for long-term success—academically, socially, and emotionally.

How do you communicate with families?

We communicate with families primarily through the Brightwheel app and direct communication with teachers and staff. Families receive regular updates and informal feedback throughout the year. Families are encouraged to participate in school events, special activities, and community-building opportunities.

Do you offer enrichment opportunities outside of regular programming?

Yes! For students three and older, we have special classes which meet monthly. Each week, they rotate between music classes with one of our worship pastors, story time with a children’s librarian from JoCo Public Library, and a big Worship Together chapel experience. We also have a few special enrichment days throughout the year featuring activities on various topics, as well as parent-child field trip opportunities.

Do you follow a year-round schedule? Do you offer summer programs or camps?

MPCC follows a school-year calendar, aligning with Center Grove Community School Corporation for fall, winter, and spring breaks. We also follow their lead when it comes to calling for weather-related delays or cancellations. Information about our summer sessions will be available on our website and social media pages before the end of the school year.
